19 Jun 2009Wet rooms are becoming quite fashionable and more and more people are starting to install their own wet rooms in their bathroom. Installing a wet room can be a tough job if you don’t have any experience in the field but due to the amount of TV coverage and all the DIY programs that have spawned up over the years it may not be a tough job after all.The internet is a great place to start when thinking of installing a wet room, there is a wealth of information out there but you must be careful to make the right choice. Wet rooms are quite simply a shower within a bathroom with a barrier-free floor. It is level with its surroundings.
To break the phases of construction of the all wet rooms I have split it up into 2 phases, the first phase is structural and consists of a slope in which the water can drain into, without this all wet rooms would have puddles of water. This slope will then have to direct the water into the drainage system. There is an air trap between the floors in all wet rooms in where the water has space to drain.
The last phase is the waterproofing, the more layers the better as will all wet rooms grout will be used to fill gaps in the tiles, and the tiles are generally waterproof.
Choosing the right layout and style can be made easy with the right advice but always be aware when deciding on the many different types of wet rooms always go for quality as you will pat yourself on the back in the long run, as there will be no hiccups such as flooding or floor damage when you get the job done right, so good luck on choosing the wet room of your dreams.
